The SROA Board deferred consideration of the Sunriver Design Committee’s proposed prohibitions on Sunriver owners’ protections for native plants until Mid-March. Board members expressed their intent that during the next two months more effort be made to inform owners and invite their comments.

One of the stated actions would be a Sunriver You “owner forum” on plant protections. “FORUM: A place, situation, or group in which people exchange ideas and discuss issues, especially important public issues.”
Instead of an open forum to exchange ideas, a couple individuals have instead scheduled a one-sided promotional Sunriver You “class” with the only presenter being the SROA Assistant General Manager. Sunriver You summarily denied a request to also include an owner with a critical perspective on the proposed standards among presenters. In that way, owners could become fully informed of the pros and cons.
(It’s worth noting that Sunriver You is controlled by a board member who is intensely opposed to plant protections and his close ally. They haven’t responded to a request to say who made this decision.)
Even if this event were to be one-sided, it should be the Design Committee Chair and/or other committee members who present their proposal and field owners’ questions. They are the only ones who have the responsibility and authority to propose Design Manual rules.
The Board President has declined to explain how this “cooked” approach serves all board member’s intent and Sunriver owners’ best interests.
